    Course Prerequisites:

    This course will suit delegates with some basic internet knowledge who wish to use the internet more effectively to find information. Each delegate will have their own PC with internet access.

    Course content:

    Planned topics for ½ day course:

    ·

    Searching using Search Engines, Web guides, White and Yellow pages and topic specific guides.

    · Understanding web page construction to help with searching - including URL, TITLE, TEXT, LINK, DOMAIN, IMAGE (Alt tag)
    · Understanding internet and search jargon
    · Basic search techniques including how to search using single word, case sensitive text, accrued text, phrases and 'wildcards'
    · Advanced searching using conditional criteria (AND, OR, NOT, NEAR) to refine a search and exclude unwanted sites/content. Understand and use the PIPE text command. Use 'field' searches.
    · What is Usenet?
    · Web vs. Usenet for searching

    There will be time for delegates to search the internet using the techniques introduced on the course.
